What is Puppets for Pages?

Puppets for Pages is a volunteer-supported campaign run by Pittsburgh puppeteer Flora Shepherd and community activist Katrina Struloeff (of the Union Project, Get Larimer and more) in response to the first time the Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh has ever closed any of its branches.

Throughout the month of November, we are traveling to each library scheduled to close to do a free puppet show, puppet workshop and library-related art activity.  We hope that our work will raise awareness about the importance of every single Pittsburgh library.

All of our experiences with the community at each library will be documented on our website. We will also regularly post information on library news and other library-related events from other sources.

On the weekend of December 5th, one week before the Library Board makes its final votes on the libraries’ futures, we are holding two events as a finale to our campaign:

  • A Family-Friendly Finale Party with many puppet shows, a giant craft workshop and a exhibition of the children’s art created in the campaign.
    Sunday, December 6th 12-3pm
    Highland Park’s Union Project
  • PUPPETS FOR PAGES GROWN-UP DANCE PARTY!
    Saturday, December 5th: 9pm- close
    East Liberty’s Shadow Lounge

“Let us read and let us dance – two amusements that will never do any harm to the world.” –Voltaire
Gather in the Blue Room to view children’s art created at libraries scheduled to close, write letters and donate to the Carnegie library. Dance like it’s 1890 and Andrew Carnegie’s very first library just opened. Dress as your favorite literary character encouraged.

Kat and Flora will be Max and a Wild Thing, respectively.
What will you be?
